Let's assume that healthy musicians are happier musicians who can play and perform
their beautiful music longer and more consistently.
But we know that the reality of practicing, rehearsing and performing can be tough on our bodies and
spirits.
This resource page is to help musicians learn natural and holistic ways to support their music-making, and access practitioners who have worked with musicians.
If you have a resource you'd like to recommend on this list, or other ideas to make this more useful for all , please send an email to healing@wakowa.com.
I'm going to work on making this technologically easier to maintain, too; I welcome any suggestions on how to do that. - Wako

Learn
self-acupressure techniques for relieving typical
discomforts that come from playing music and hauling around
your instrument and equipment. We'll address tight shoulders
and neck, sore arms and hands, as well as helping smooth
performance jitters.
You'll start
to build your own Healthy Intentions Toolkit for happy and
sustainable music-making during rehearsals and on-stage.

Your breath is your friend.
Deep breathing-slow inhale,
slow exhale-helps your body and mind relax, so pay attention
to your breath while you're playing your instrument. Don't
forget to breathe. |
|
Schedule in your breaks.
Set the timer for 30 minutes, and take a short break. In 3-5
minutes, you can do some downward dogs, take a short walk
outside to feel the sunshine or a cool breeze, drink a glass
of water, give someone a hug, use some self-acupressure
points… |
|
Incorporate exercise and
movement into your routine.
Regular xercise and movement help build flexibility and
strength in your body. Practices like yoga, tai chi, and qi
gong place emphasis on the breath, so these can support the
first point on this list. |
